An Australian mother has gone viral on TikTok after calling out for reckless parking at her local mall.
But what she thought was a black-and-white situation has become much more controversial, with those on both sides weighing in on her dilemma.
‘careless’ action
This week Queensland mum-of-two Steph Arneill, on TikTok as @stepharneillll, took to the app to share an experience she had at her local shopping centre.
In the video, Steph is seen leaving the shops with a pram, only to see another car parked over the line and in her car space.
Since she’s turned her car into space, Steph’s first concern is whether her car trunk won’t even open.
But when it does, her next concern is how to get her stroller inside.
“I don’t know how I’m going to fit my stroller in,” she says in the viral video.
“Maneuver him somehow?”
Steph goes on to talk about how ‘inconsiderate’ the driver of the other car is, adding that she decided to leave a note in the car on her way out.
“I’m not being dramatic, but what if I hadn’t opened the trunk of the car?” she said.
“Don’t turn back!”
Although Steph apparently posted the video thinking most people would be on her side, it soon became clear that wasn’t going to happen.
Her comments section was almost immediately flooded with people calling her dramatic and saying her problem had an easy solution.
“If you need to use your boots, don’t turn back!” said one commenter.
“As a ute owner, I see nothing wrong with the way they are parked,” said another.
“Yes, it’s over the line, but most of the parking lots are very small, which makes parking more difficult.”
“I mean you can just move your car,” echoed a third.
“I don’t feel like it’s that big of an annoying deal, but not the end of the world.”
“Are you missing the whole point?”
However, many people jumped to her defense in the comments, especially other mothers.
“Everyone who says ‘just move the car forward’ are the same people who would park like the red car,” said one.
“Don’t turn the park back comments are outrageous. Are you missing the whole point?” said another.
“The ute is wrongly parked … no matter how the OP parked.”
“Until you become a mother, you won’t understand the anxiety and inner rage this causes,” said another.
“I can’t believe the number of people who blame you in some way when that person is literally INSIDE YOUR PARKING LOT?” added a quarter.
Steph responded to a comment on the original video, explaining that she had parked in a special car park in the hope that it would give her the extra space she needed, but unfortunately she didn’t.
“I was parked in a spot specifically for parents with strollers, and it still ended up like this,” she said.
